Laser Therapy
Laser therapy can be used alongside most conventional treatments, but it is important to inform your therapist of any medication you are taking. Laser treatment is entirely safe to deliver directly over metal implants, over broken skin, and on acute injuries. Safety glasses are worn to protect the eyes. The laser treatment itself is completely painless. During the treatment the patient experiences a gentle warming effect and can often feel an immediate relaxation and soothing effect.
The number of treatments required depends on the nature of the problem and how long it has been present. While many people can feel some relief after one or two sessions it can take just 6-8 treatments for a significant improvement. Severe chronic conditions can require more, with periodic maintenance top up treatments once desired results are achieved.
Deep Tissue Laser Therapy uses a Class IV therapeutic laser which has the power to penetrate deep into tissue structures. Laser therapy is a high-tech, non-invasive approach to healing that directly stimulates the body’s natural repair mechanisms, providing pain relief and repairing injured tissues.
Photons of infra-red light penetrate through the skin and are absorbed by chromophores in your body’s cells. This results in more energy available for healing and draws water, oxygen and nutrients to the damaged area. This results in a cascade of biochemical processes, known as photobiomodulation. Because of its biostimulatory nature laser therapy helps poorly functioning cells by providing available energy to accelerate healing.
Patients treated with laser therapy often show improvement both during and after treatment in the following ways:
- Reduced Inflammation
- Reduced Pain
- Reduced Muscle Spasms
- Reduced Stiffness
- Accelerated Cell Growth
- Accelerated Tissue Repair
- Improved Circulation
- Reduced Scar Tissue
- Muscle Relaxation
- Improved Joint Motion
- Nerve Regeneration
- Improved Lymph Flow
Laser Therapy has been clinically proven to be an effective treatment for pain and inflammation in many conditions, including those resistant to conventional treatments such as:
- Neuropathic Pain
- Fibromyalgia
- Arthritis
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Back/Neck/Shoulder Pain
- Bursitis
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Tendonitis
- Sports Injuries
- Knee/ Elbow/ Joint Pain
